Ever hear the old adage that “Practice makes perfect”? Well, when it comes to employment interviewing nothing could be closer to the truth. To assist Emory students with their interviewing skills, The Career Center provides a couple of options to get students “comfortable in their own skin” with their interviewing skills and the interviewing process (pdf guide).

Mock Interview Days are comprised of “guest interviewers” (i.e. Alumni, HR reps, Recruiters, etc.) that come from a wide variety of backgrounds and diverse industries. Students are able to sign up on line via Eagle Ops to schedule one 45 min. time slot in which they will be on the hot seat and get grilled on their resume, career interests, and skills, as well as get immediate feedback from their interviewers. Mock Interview Days are usually held at the beginning of both the Fall and Spring semester.

Practice Interviews with Career Counselors/Advisors can be scheduled at any point during the year, Emory students can simply call to schedule an appointment.  When scheduling your appointment, it is helpful to provide a copy of your resume, cover letter, as well as a description of the opportunity (Job, Internship, Scholarship, or Academic Program) in which you will be interviewing for to your assigned counselor at least 24 hours in advance. This way the staff member you are working with can tailor their questions to meet your needs.

Informational Interviewing and Job Shadowing are additional methods in which Emory students can begin to explore, obtain information, and gain a first-hand perspective in understanding functional work roles and how they interact in the work place.  Attached is an Informational Interviewing guide (pdf) to help get you started.
