The gap year is a familiar tradition in Europe and is gaining popularity here in the U.S. The gap year is a period of time between college and graduate school or between college and starting a full time job. This year can be used to pursue interests, try out new experiences, follow your passions, serve your community, and become a well-rounded global citizen. From life-changing volunteer projects spanning the globe to paid jobs abroad, gap years are all about gaining life experience.
The real advantage of a gap year is that universities and employers appreciate candidates who have stepped out of their comfort zone and worked and traveled abroad. Many universities and professional schools are supportive of gap years, often offering deferrals to gap year candidates.
Gap years are an ideal opportunity to reflect on future career paths and academic choices, experience a different culture, meet new people and see new places!
