Choosing A Major
When it comes to choosing a major, some students like to explore all options before making a final selection. Others are pretty sure about their major(s), but want to validate their choice in relation to future career choices. While a major choice does not always translate directly into one particular career path, you can begin thinking about your possible career options and lifestyle preferences to help in making your decision. So whether you are certain about your major choice, or want to learn more before making a commitment, The Career Center staff can assist you in making a well-informed decision by:
- Sharing resources to help you learn more about typical career paths of majors
- Discussing how a liberal arts major will translate to a professional career path
- Evaluating your skills and interests to confirm majors under consideration
- Providing resources to connect with alumni who had the same major or career path
- Helping you highlight transferrable skills that can be acquired from your coursework and used in a variety of occupations
- Identifying possible internship opportunities to help students get hands-on experience that may assist in narrowing options
If you are looking for more specific questions related to course selection or which courses will fulfill General Education Requirements or major/minor curriculum requirements, you should speak with an Academic Advisor at the Emory College Office.
