Obtaining A Dean's Certification
Obtaining a Dean’s Certification
When applying to law school, some schools may require a Dean’s Certification. This form is used by law schools to determine if an applicant has any standing academic or disciplinary sanctions on their University record. Please note that every school does not require a Dean's certification. If it is required, a form will be located within the school’s application packet. If an applicant is using the Electronic Application Software from the Law School Admission Council to apply to law school, the form can be located in the “Supplementary Forms” link within the school's individual application.
Dean's Certification forms should be submitted to The Career Center for processing and submission to the law schools. To have a Dean’s Certification completed, students should do the following:
- Sign the Dean's form for each school in the appropriate place.
- Complete the appropriate forms from The Career Center:
- The Registration and Authorization Form
- Letter of Evaluation Policies & Procedures
- Fee Request Form (NOTE: There is a fee of $5 per certification payable by check. Please make the check payable to Emory University.)
- Submit the Dean’s Forms, Career Center forms, and payment in the appropriate amount to The Career Center. If mailing materials, the address is located at the top of the Registration & Authorization Form.
Please note that there is a 5 - 7 business day turn-around time on Dean's certifications, so students are encouraged to submit forms well ahead of application deadlines.
