Are you thinking about law school? If law school is something you want to pursue, then you are in the right place and The Pre-Law Advising Office is here to help! Located in The Career Center, the Pre-Law Advising Office has a mission to educate Emory’s pre-law students and alumni about pursuing legal career pathways and prepare them to be successful in the law school application process. To accomplish this goal, the Office provides a variety of programs and services designed to assist Emory’s pre-law community throughout the process of preparing for a legal education. The Pre-Law Advising Office serves three main functions for Emory pre-law students – Advising, Programming, and Communications.
ADVISING
The Office is managed by the University Pre-Law Advisor, who is here to provide you with guidance through this process. While some of the information below will assist you in developing your specific course of action, you can schedule an advising appointment by calling The Career Center at 404-727-6211. Please note that individual advising appointments are only available to seniors and alumni who are currently applying to law school between the first day of fall classes and the end of September. All other pre-law students may visit with the Pre-Law Advisor during Pre-Law Office Hours or may submit questions via email to rodia.vance@emory.edu. As of October 1, all pre-law students may schedule an individual advising appointment.
There are many different paths to law school. You can study any major you choose and participate in any number of extracurricular activities and professional experiences. This flexibility allows you the freedom to craft an academic and professional course that truly reflects your interests. You are encouraged to use your undergraduate years as a time to explore and develop your personal and professional values and goals. Taking the time to do so will lead to a more rewarding overall collegiate experience as well as ensure that law school is the best choice for you. For guidance on how to best use your college years to prepare for law school, be sure to check out the Four-Year Timeline, Pre-Law Curriculum Guidelines, and Pre-Law FAQs. Once you’re ready to apply, be sure to utilize the Pre-Law Advising Office to help you organize and plan your law school application process, including staying on track with the Law School Application Timeline, obtaining Dean’s Certifications for applications, or using the Document Critique Service.
PROGRAMMING
Throughout the school year, the Pre-Law Advising Office organizes and hosts many different pre-law programs and events. From law school application workshops to legal career panels and networking events, you will have the opportunity to learn everything you need to know about preparing for a career in law. The Office also sponsors a number of visits to Emory’s campus by top law schools from around the country.
