Learn About Career Options

Career Resource Library – Our library has many career-related books, magazines, and other resources available for students to learn about the variety of career roles within different employment sectors (Corporate, Government, Non-Profit, Education) and Industries (Financial, Communications, Legal, Health Care, etc.)

Career Center Programs – Each semester The Career Center offers a program guide of skill workshops, career panels, networking and special events to assist students with opportunities to learn about unique occupations, develop their skills, and understand what’s expected to become a competitive candidate in a global marketplace.  

  • Researching Career & Industry Horizons (or “RICH” Series) is offered each semester, these events consist of 4 or 5 professionals who share their experiences and answer student’s questions in an informal panel format.
  • Careers for the Common Good – How can you earn a living working for the greater good of society?  This series introduces you to professionals who answer this question from their own perspectives in these challenging and rewarding career paths!  Co-sponsored by The Career Center, Volunteer Emory and The Office of University-Community Partnerships.
  • Industry Focus Nights give students the opportunity to meet with employers to hear about careers in different industries.  A  Panel format is followed by a networking event where students have the opportunity to connect with alumni and professionals from the industry. These events are open to undergraduates Freshman- Seniors and all majors. Business Casual Attire Required.
  • Employer Networking/Info-sessions are events hosted by recruiting organizations.  They are hosted to provide information about careers at a company and the details of the recruiting process as it relates to the specific organization.  These events are opportunities for students to interact with representatives from a recruiting firm and are used by the employers to determine student interest in a position. Business Casual Attire Recommended.
  • Skill Based Workshops on topics such as Interviewing, Networking, Resume Writing, and Correspondence are offered each semester.

Informational Interviewing and Job Shadowing are additional methods in which Emory students can begin to explore, obtain information, and gain a first-hand perspective in understanding functional work roles and how they interact in the work place.  Attached is an Informational Interviewing guide (pdf) to help get you started.
